Here am I, Prague.
The City & stuff:
Beautiful city in center of Europe. Old monuments, old buildings, fashion streets, astonishing girls. Prague has nothing less than Paris, I'd say it has much MORE.
More Americans, more American sports (ice hockey, baseball, football NOT soccer), a beautiful, quick & clean subway, less cars, no scooters... I can't list everything but here are the best shots! Unfortunately for me, it is the smokers paradise: you can still smoke everywhere you want and the cigarettes are cheap.
This is the cleanest city ever! no papers on the streets, no dog craps around, no throwing aways! Well, except when you go in a tourist area: tourists are -of course- bastards with other countries, especially when they are spanish or unfortunately french.
The habits:
People are always around, always walking and always partying. Pivo (beer) is the main alcoholic beverage and it is amazingly cheap (7 kc (0,28€) for 0,5L in city centers' supermarkets and between 25 kc and 60 kc (1€ to 2,5€) in bars in the city center as well).
Well, here's the deal basically: you look at Coca Cola (or Pepsi, I prefer Pepsi) price (30/40 kc minimum) and beer price (25 kc minimum), what do you do?.....PIVO!
We (some few ESG students who are in the same area) have the habit to go every Mondays to a Monday free club: The Roxy Club which is very underground with underground music and where all the best & well known DJ's are playing.
If you like rock music or hard rock, there is a lot of concerts & shows around. Especially at the Abaton Club (which is hard to find at first time!) or if you like big popular rock bands, it would be at the O² Arena (ex-Sazka Arena), the official Slavia Praha ice hockey team arena.
By the way, let's talk about Ice hockey and American sports then. Here -as you may already know if you are not so narrow minded- is the capital of European ice hockey. Indeed, every best hockey players are 8 of 10 Czech! When you see a guy in NHL who is called "something-sky" at the end of his name, well you are pretty sure he's not polish, neither Russian but Czech!
The first national sport is Ice hockey NOT soccer and it's better that way! (yeah I love ice hockey, always have & always will)
Czech people are not only very interested in American culture with their sports as I said (hockey, football, baseball) but in American food habits as well. It's very not unusual to see KFCs, Subways, Starbuck'ses, McDonald's etc.
The people:
Well, people are globally really respectful. Especially with their country, with laws and with people around. They won't shout in the subway, they won't throw papers in the streets (they would throw everything into garbage cans) etc. But something which is paradoxical: they are very rude with people. If the person hits you in the street while walking in the other way, he would just keep walking without turning back to apologize... so that's kinda choking at first but you learn to avoid these hits ;)
Last but not least: Girls. Well, kids, you are going to have a heart attack when falling in love like 50 times a day. In addition to that heart attack, you will have serious neck and eye movement injuries Haha. Girls are absolutely beautiful, every single girl is slender even if they are not all beautiful and this is really pleasant!
You won't be able to come back to France and look around fat and ugly ladies!! haha
The New York University:
Basically, the university is really good. Very good teachers not as in France, they behave the American way: motivate the student, be always asking for participation saying that they don't know everything and we may know stuff too etc. They always listen to the student. When you are interesting, it's not unusual that they let you express yourself even if they don't have so much time. They don't hesitate to take on their free time by calling you out at the end of class to speak with you about yourself and to give you advices. I love that way of teaching.
I mean, if you like that American way of teaching, that is to say that your teacher is also your friend looking for being taught by you also, so you may want to go to the US for your 3rd year study or maybe to do as I did not to be too far from Paris and study in Prague at the New York University (because I have professional things to achieve there).
Well, that's the end of the quick show! Bye pals!
